Background
Renewable energy systems contribution to the total amount of energy production on the globe is increasing dramatically. Renewable sources potential should be further exploited in order to achieve maximum efficiency and overcome the increasing power demand in the world. In fact it is possible to predict a large share in the energy production in the future (20 % is the goal of the EU). Industrial electronics intended as energy conversion, control, measurement and communication (all themes within the scope of the Industrial Electronics Society) will play a crucial role in order to increase the integration of these systems and to facilitate their active role in the energy market.
Aim of the panel session
The panel session has been organized in order to discuss issues related to the use of industrial electronics in renewable energy systems. The idea is to organize a technology forum following much the specifications typically required for industrial business projects with a connection to the visions obtained by Industrial Electronic Society researchers. The main aims of the panel session will be to identify:
- The most interesting topics for industry in the field
- The potential benefits of the connection between renewable energy and distributed generation
and to seek out how to
- Influence international recommendations, standards and codes in view of considering the growing presence of industrial electronic in the renewable source systems
- Enhance the synergy between industry and academia on these topics
It will be also discussed the impact of a technical committee on “Industrial Electronics Applications to Renewable Energies”, developed within the Industrial Electronic Society, on the scientific community involved in these research fields. The committee should cooperate with other similar ones already running in sister societies.
